UK Coaching Awards

Coaching Awards invite

If your name’s not down…..

On 3rd December 2013 Sports Coach UK hosted the annual UK Coaching Awards to celebrate the nations coaches and I was invited as part of the Coach Aspire programme.

The awards were held at the Montcalm, Marble Arch and it was a glitzy and star studded event. Amongst the guests were Rob Andrew, Warren Gatland (who took Performance Coach of the Year and overall Coach of the Year), Sir Ben Ainslie and Amy Williams (Winter Olympic Gold Medallist and now racing car driver!).

After a champagne reception 150 or so (I guess) coaches sat down to watch the awards, applaud the nominees and winners and eat dinner. After dinner there was a chance for further networking in the bar.

Being slightly biased, it was great to see British Cycling pick up the award for Governing Body of the Year and, later in the night, Hillingdon Slipstreamers Coach John Gunn named Children’s Coach of the Year.

Another highlight of the evening for me was seeing the Award for The Coaching Chain. This year it went to the 5 coaches who have helped to develop Sir Ben Ainslie and it was great to see the coaches that were involved before he was winning Olympic medals get some recognition.
